This sermon comes from the book of Psalm chapter 23.
Psalm 23:1 talks about how the Lord is our shepherd and we are his sheep. We are privileged to have an intimate relationship with God. Because the Lord is our shepherd we can rely on him and know he will always be there for us and lead us to the path of righteousness.
Psalm 23:2, “ He makes me lie down in green pastures,he leads me beside quiet water,” the good shepherd provides us with all our needs. He provides rest in peace in an anxious world. Jesus offers peace in the midst of chaos.
Psalm 23:3 says, “he refreshes my soul.” the Lord is able to restore your soul and give you joy. He brings us back to him when we wander off. We need the Lord’s guidance for he will never lead us astray.
Psalm 23:4 says, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me ; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” The good shepherd protects us through tough times in life. He will never abandon us or forsake us.
The good shepherd will honour us no matter the circumstances. He will vindicate us. Psalm 23:5 says this, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows”
The good shepherd will always be good to you, he will always be faithful. God’s love endures forever as King David says in Psalm 23:6, “Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Who is your shepherd today? Where is your pastures?
