Within this sermon, Pastor Jimmy Abrams reiterated who Jesus is to members of the Ocean Community. We all have different encounters with Jesus. Some encounter Him from childhood, others later on. Everyone’s relationship with Jesus is unique to their own individual experience and circumstance. Despite this fact, there are some overriding facts about Jesus that are consistent for all of us. Jesus is our savior. Jesus is sovereign and possesses ultimate power. Jesus is our soon and Coming King.
One of the passages of scripture that captures all of these traits is Isaiah Chapter 9 vs. 2 -7 which states: “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness…The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.”
To help illustrate each of these of Jesus, Pastor Jimmy Abrams delves into several passages of scripture that unpack these unique traits.
Jesus is Saviour
There is no sin that Jesus cannot forgive. There is no distance that He won’t travel to find us wherever we are. Jesus loves us more than we can imagine. His love is deeper, wider, and bigger than any of us can fathom and no matter where we are, He loves us.
The Book of Colossians Chapter 1 vs 15-20 emphasizes Jesus’s supremacy over us as savior as it states: “:The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation… and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross.”
In the midst of our daily lives we lose sight of the all-encompassing person of Jesus and forget to place Him at the center of our lives. Jesus is passionately committed to pursuing us. Yet we are often guilty of not reciprocating this zeal towards Him. Too often we forget Jesus’ centrality in our lives and only bring Him along as a passenger. In doing so, we lose sight of His all-encompassing nature as savior.
Jesus is Sovereign and Possesses Ultimate Power
God places all things under His feet. Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father. So all things that God can do, Jesus can do as well. Everything that we’re dealing with can be handled by Jesus. Every struggle and obstacle, if given to Jesus can be overcome. We won’t have to face it alone or battle it out on our own if Jesus is at the center. He has ultimate power over everything and through Him, all things are possible.
Jesus is our Soon and Coming King
When comforting His Disciples, Jesus reassured them that He would return and that His departure was only temporary. This is captured in the Book of John Ch. 14 vs. 1 – “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me…You know the way to the place where I am going.”
This same message is also relevant to us as His followers. Jesus’ departure was only temporary. He has gone to prepare a place and He will come back to take us with Him. He is our soon and coming King. God will prompt the Holy Spirit to ignite followers of Christ and ensure that this prophecy comes to fruition and that all corners of the world know who Jesus is before His eventual return.
One day, all the people in the world, past, present and future will kneel before Jesus. It has been prophesied that every knee will bow and all tongues will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
